Bible Journal: Something for Good Friday

Today we did our morning devotions together as a family. Dad was in the book of Psalms and he read Psalm 21 and 22.
I thought this Psalm fit well with this day, Good Friday.

Psalm 22 is the most important Messianic Psalm that speaks of Christ’s suffering. Our Lord quoted part of this Psalm when He was on the Cross too.

I’ll just give you snippets of it here, as a sample of what we read, and I encourage you to read it for yourself today.

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken Me?
Why are you so far from helping Me,
And from the words of My groaning?”

“Many bulls have surrounded Me;
Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled Me.
They gape at Me with their mouths,
Like a raging and roaring lion…”

“My strength is dried up like a potsherd,
And My tongue clings to my jaws;
You have brought Me to the dust of death…”

“For dogs have surrounded Me;
The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me.
They pierced My hands and My feet;
I can count all My bones.
They look and stare at Me.
They divide my garments among them,
And for my clothing they cast lots.”

(Psalm 22:1, 12-13, 15-18)

What a great sacrifice, what Redeeming work! That the Son of God would come to take our place and suffer for us….is humbling.

  1. Aw, Becky… I read this Psalm last night (I believe) and it was an encouragement to me also. On the cross, Christ quotes Scripture. 😀 <3 love you!
