A valuable verse

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart.”
(Psalm 37:4)

Delight. I love that word.

Merriam Webster Dictionary defines the word as: “extreme satisfaction, or joy…a high degree of gratification.”

I realized how important this verse should be in our lives. To find your “delight” in the Lord means to make Him the center of your life. This verse tells me that my life’s joy should be in Christ, not in temporary things. That can be easier said than done.

Like everyone else, I find little joys in temporary things like finishing a project, going somewhere with my family, looking forward to a special event, eating a special dessert, and so on. You too can find plenty of things you look forward too as well. Often, if the circumstances change, we become frustrated and lose our happiness because it was based on temporary things.

Here’s a recent personal example. My sisters and I were really looking forward to going to the annual air show in our area this October. (The best in the west I tell you!) It’s like some of you in northern states look forward to berry picking every summer. Well, we were hoping to go to the Air Show like we did almost every year, and get the thrill of seeing the Blue Angel jets do tricks in the sky and see many other military displays.
However, some of us fell sick with a flu right before the air show, and we had to stay home. Of course we were dissapointed. God understands that we have little things we enjoy doing, and like a loving Father, He allows us to enjoy them. But I saw that as another opportunity I had to remind myself to find my delight in the Lord.

The main point is that no matter what- our deepest joy should be in the Lord. It’s not easy to do. We should pray about it everyday. BUT- the best part of it is that you get rewarded for that too!
Not only do you have “a high degree of gratification” in your life because of the Lord, you also get “the desires of your heart”! Isn’t that wonderful?!?

God will grant your deepest desires when you find your delight in Him. How so? When you find your delight in the Lord, your desires come in tune with God’s will for your life.

Now that is one valuable promise for us.

Please share with me one of your life verses. I really want to hear your part, because it helps edify me too. I can’t make you write, but I really hope you will do it.

  1. One verse I really love is from Isaiah 43: 4-5: “Since you are preciouse and honored in My sight, and because I love you…Do not be afraid, for I am with you.”

I really like this verse because it tells us that God sees us preciouse and honored in His sight and that He loves us. I also like the part that says “do not be afraid, for I am with you”. It gives me comfort in hard times
