Bible Characters

Our first “swapping” will be on Bible characters. We know that the Bible is concentrated on the wonderful person of Christ as the main character.

There are also examples of godly people in the Bible. So the question is this: who is your favorite Christ-like character in the Bible? Why is that person your favorite? Please comment below and let me know! If someone else has the same “favorite” that’s okay. Put your comment anyway, because it’s special.

Since I couldn’t decide on one character, I allowed myself the liberty of listing three:

Joshua. A warrior. His name means “Yaweh is Salvation”. Joshua lived up to his name, because all the victories he had in battle were not by military might, but because God granted him victories when he obeyed and had faith in His command.
Joshua is a type of Christ, or a representation of Christ. I like what my New Open Bible explains it.
Please read this short note:
“In his role of triumphantly leading his people into their possessions, he (Joshua) foreshadows the One who will bring “many sons to glory” (Heb. 2:10). Joshua succeeds Moses and wins the victory unreached by Moses. Christ will succeed the Mosaic Law and win the victory unreachable by the Law (John 1:17, Rom. 8:2-4…)”

David. I love the psalms. They are so comforting to the soul, and a great inspiration for most songs I wrote for our music ministry. David was the one after God’s own heart. He is also a type of Christ. The long sufferings David went through before he became king are an example of the sufferings of Christ. He was the Messianic king, a forerunner of the perfect Holy King.

The Apostle Paul. The theologian of grace. I like all the doctrinal epistles he wrote, and especially the book of Romans. I like the fact that he was very capable of defending the Gospel, or doing apologetics.

So I shared with you some of my favorite Bible characters. Now it’s your turn. Let the swapping begin! Answer the questions above in your comments, and feel free to share a lot of details.

I like details.

You may have wondered why I didn’t choose Rebekah as a favorite character. *grin* I didn’t even have to mention her because I naturally like her as my namesake- everyone named after Bible characters does, right?

  1. I have quite a few favorite Bible characters, and I’m not sure which one is my most favorite so I will just list two or three.

    I will start with: Hannah, a prayerful woman who served the Lord all her life;

Deborah, a prophetess who lead the nation of Israel and helped settle their disputes; a brave woman respected by all the people; Israel had forty years of peace after her.

And last but not least: Jael, also a brave woman who helped defeat the enemy of Israel.

  2. I like Stephen… he first caught my attention because it’s my middle name too, then, every time I read about his sacrifice and his sermon, I was in awe of his dedication and determination to proclaim the truth – even at the cost of his life. The reason he had peace and joy about this was that he could see the bigger picture… knew WHO was the One he was doing this for, knew where he was going.

  3. I like so many Bible characters that I don’t know which one to choose:)
Well…. since my name is Abigail I naturally like Abigail and also because she was a wise woman. One thing that I didn’t know and just found out was that King David also had a sister named Abigail:)

Hezekiah is another Bible character I like because he was a king that did what was right in the sight of the Lord and he destroyed all the idols and removed the high places of Israel (1 Kings 18:3-4). I especially like verse five, “He trusted in the Lord God of Israel, so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor who were before him.” Can you believe it, there was no other king like him, not even David who was before him?! But I can see why, because in verse six it says, “For he held fast to the Lord; he did not depart from following him, but kept His commandments, which the Lord had commanded Moses.” So he was like no other king because he followed the Lord, kept his commandment and trusted in Him! Therefore, the Lord was with him and he prospered wherever he went (verse seven). We can see here that if we put our trust in the Lord and keep his commandments the Lord will bless us and make us prosperous. I like that, to be rewarded for what you do:)
