Things to do when you’re sick in bed

when sick

It’s the flu season. (One more reason to dislike the coming of winter). I already had the flu, and it sure wasn’t pleasant. I ended up in bed for probably 2-4 days on and off, with little energy, but I praise the Lord that I got over it and it didn’t get worse because it dragged on for about 1 whole week.

Now, don’t plan on getting sick! Check out my post about 10 Immune Boosting Foods so you can stay healthy.

But if you do get sick… here are some ideas of activities you can do when you’re staying in bed, so you don’t get bored or feel like you’re wasting time. That is, if you have the energy to do anything. I personally felt so miserable…

Useful Things to do when You’re Sick in Bed

  • Read more Scripture. It will comfort your heart and will be the #1 BEST use of your time
  • If you have a prayer list, pray on that list. Or pray for people you always mean to pray for but never get around to. Or pray for all the smallest and biggest prayer requests you ever had.
  • Ever wanted to send a card/letter through snail mail and never found the time to sit down and write? You can try that if you have the energy.
  • Call a friend and have a nice real conversation on the phone, or call and say hello to a lonely grandmother, aunt or relative.
  • If you’re into knitting or crocheting, you can really keep your hands busy and catch up on projects
  • Same thing if you have hand sewing projects
  • Read a good book or a book that teaches you something new
  • Make lists, all kinds of lists. Things you plan to do, things you wish, things you want to organize etc. Any project that needs a list.
  • Play a board game with your family if they have time and they’re sick with the flu as well 🙂
  • Color! You know those adult coloring books that are all the fad? I don’t have one, but if you like, well there’s one thing to do.
  • If you’re a cook or baker, do some meal planning!
  • Catch up on journaling or scrapbooking
  • Listen to good music
  • Ask a family member to give you a good massage
  • Listen to an audiobook or sermon
  • If you’re a writer or artist, write a story or a poem, or start sketching
  • Plan ahead for what kind of birthday or Christmas gifts you can give to those “difficult to gift” people in your life

What Not To Do:

  • Watch TV
  • Spend time on Pinterest or social media
  • Play video or phone games
  • Spend time on anything that is stressful or requires a lot of mental energy

  1. Stopping by from the Wise Woman linkup – this is a good list. When I’m sick, I’ve found it to be a great time for blogging. 🙂 I don’t often have the energy or brainpower to actually write, but it’s a good time to do some planning, reading, learning, and implementing ideas from my “to-do list.”

    1. Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for stopping in! I agree, sick time is a great time to use for blogging, I’ve tried that at times too, but just like you, sometimes I don’t have the brainpower. 😀 But at least I may get a title in there and maybe an introduction, haha! Then I usually stop.

I’m glad you found the list useful! I think we’re both similar in that we’re list-makers. 🙂 There’s a satisfaction in that! I’ll be checking out your blog too.

      Have a lovely day!
      Rebekah
