Science supports music!

Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody! (Psalm 98:5)

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Philippians 4:8)

All musicians and singers out there, listen to what scientists have to say about your musical passion! Research has demonstrated the benefits of music and instrument playing. Of course we don’t need scientists to tell us how beautiful music really is, or how wonderful it is to make music, but it’s fun to know the scientific details about it too!

Before you watch the amusing informational video, read these beautiful quotes on music.

Thoughts on music from great men of God

The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.
   – Johann Sebastian Bach

Music is an agreeable harmony for the honor of God and the permissible delights of the soul.
    – Johann Sebastian Bach

“My heart, which is so full to overflowing, has often been solaced and refreshed by music when sick and weary.”
― Martin Luther

“With all my heart I would extol the precious gift of God in the noble art of music, but I scarcely know where to begin or end… David, himself a musician, testified with amazement and joy to the song of the birds. What then shall I say of the voice of man, to which nought else may be compared?
The heathen philosophers have striven in vain to explain how the tongue of man can express the thoughts of the heart in speech and song, through laughter and lamentation.

Music is to be praised as second only to the Word of God because by her are all the emotions swayed.
Nothing on earth is more mighty to make the sad gay and the gay sad, to hearten the downcast, mellow the overweening, temper the exuberant, or mollify the vengeful. The Holy Spirit himself pays tribute to music when he records that the evil spirit of Saul was exorcised as David played…

This precious gift has been bestowed on men alone to remind them that they are to praise and magnify the Lord. But when natural music is sharpened and polished by art, then one begins to see with amazement the great and perfect wisdom of God in his wonderful work of music…” – Martin Luther

  1. I love music! The video is very enthralling, I enjoy watching these short but informative videos on all kinds of topics; they’re also easy to understand. So when I sing/play I know I’ll have fireworks going on in my brain:) Lovely post.

  2. Love the video! Who knew that playing an instrument and singing at the same time can be even more beneficial to the brain! Reminds me that I should pick up my instrument and practice 🙂 Thanks for sharing the wonderful quotes as well!
