Bible Journal: Elect of God

Character of the Elect Children of God

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another,

if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

But above all these things, put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

Colossians 3:12-14

That’s what I read recently in my personal devotions.

  1. Hey Becky! I received my book this afternoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! **squeals with delight** I plan on delving right into it! And then I believe Heidi may read it as well! My mom and little sisters were all just about excited as I was for me to receive it 😀 lol
THis morning in my devotions (and i may do a blog post on this when I have time– which wouldn’t be today 🙁 ) Jesus showed me something awesome. It was one of those things that I’ve grown up knowing (having that dreaded head knowledge of!) but today God kind of personalized it for me. Lately my Pastor has been preaching on sunday nights through Psalms 119 and he advised us (and I’ve read this frequently elswhere as well) to read the Word of God until the Holy Spirit gives you something.
    well… I did this today.
    and I’m reading Leviticus.
    Oh yes. lol 😀
So i read about two and a half chapters of leprosy before I got to this passage, but it was WORTH THE WAIT! I read in Leviticus 16:20-22, about the scapegoat and how Aaron would place his hands on it’s head and confess ALL the sins, iniquities, and transgressions of ALL the children of Israel on that poor little goat, who would then, bearing those burdens, be released into a separated, uninhabited place. This passage cross-references with Isaiah 53. And it dawned on me. Jesus Christ was and is MY scapegoat! He bore my sins in His own body on the tree! “He bore the burden to Calvary and suffered and died alone.” (Isaiah 53:6,10-12)
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all…… Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” It just boggled my mind to think that Christ took upon Himself the weight of ALL my sins, which would be bad enough, but ALSO the weight of the whole world’s sin also!
    wow!
so that’s what I read this morning in my devotions 😀
Hope you have an awesome day!
    Love Katie
