But he purposed in his heart…

Credit

“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of eunuchs that he might not defile himself….

…As for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom…”  (Daniel 1:8, 17)

It has been a long time since I last posted. I felt this would be the most appropriate thing to post after such a long break. I’m in the book of Daniel with my reading and the verses above really stuck to me.

I take it as an encouragement that if you purpose in your heart to serve the Lord and be faithful to Him, the Lord will reward you with all the wisdom and knowledge that you need, in any subject matter, or situation in life. This is for all you students out there who are busy with schoolwork like myself and under pressure of upcoming finals and other exams.

Just as the Lord gave Daniel and his friends all wisdom and understanding, He will give you too when you dedicate your life to godly living. I must keep that as a reminder to myself, and I will write it down on a piece of paper to keep it on my desk and look at it when I work. So be encouraged and pray and ask for wisdom in all things.

What have you been reading?

  1. Here are some interesting words that me and/or James found the meaning of:
“Mara”- personal name meaning “bitter” chosen by Naomi
” Gourd”- inedible fruit with a hard rind(used to decorate temple)
” Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin”- strange inscription written on palace wall of King Belshazzar of Babylon which was interpreted by the prophet Daniel, meaning “numbered, weighed, and divided”
” Ishmael”- personal name meaning “God hears” (also son of Abraham)

    1. Hi Kimmy and Jimmy!
So good to hear from you again! Thanks for sharing this! The definitions sure are interesting aren’t they?
I wonder, what does the name Zacheeus mean? We just read about him with my family a few days ago…and I was just thinking that not many people name their kids “Zacheeus” although he is a good character in the Bible. Did you ever think of that? Maybe you could look that name up too, and post a comment to tell us about it.
Looking forward to getting more comments from you!

      Rebekah
