Bible Journal: Guard what you’re entrusted with

Dear Journal,

Today we had our devotions together as a family from 1 Timothy. There was one verse that stood out to us:

Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. (1 Timothy 6:20)

In the original text the word is phylasso (φυλάσσω), which means to guard, or keep watch over, or keep from being snatched away, lost or perishing…

Here’s the question for you girls.

What has been entrusted to your care? Spiritually speaking?

Personally, for me it is the precious promises I received from the Lord… the doctrine of grace that I learned from the Bible…and the lessons I learned about how to understand the Word of God… the plan of Salvation that God worked out for us…the ministry of prayer and singing.

These have been entrusted to my care. And I pray that I will be able to guard it.

What does it mean for you? Do share.

  1. Thank you for sharing this, Rebekah! I always enjoy reading these posts about what you have been learning in the Word, even though I don’t always have time to comment on them. In answer to your question, I think for me, the things that have been entrusted to my care are really what you shared — the truths the Lord has been teaching me, the promises He has given, etc.

By the way, I’m having a give-away at my blog 🙂

    Blessings,
    Amy

  2. Hi Becky!
Thanks for entering my give-away! I appreciated you shared in your comment. Also, you said that you were planning to take mine and Bethany’s blog button on your blog. That’s so nice of you! However I did want to mention, when I made Bethany’s blog button, I made a mistake on it, so it doesn’t work right, currently (when you click on it, it doesn’t send you to her blog. Whoops!) Your comment reminded me that I need to fix that. So, anyway, please don’t take Bethany’s button quite yet. Once I have the button fixed, I’ll let you know 🙂
    Amy
